There was definitely a romantic atmosphere. I was there with my wife and my grandkids and their dates. It's a little too dark for me. I had to use a candle to see the menu. I ordered a pasta dish that was similar to Fettuccine Alfredo, but it wasn't a sauce. It was kind of a dry type of cheese noodles, almost like a baked Fettuccine Alfredo. It was a little dry, but I enjoyed it. My wife ordered a pizza, and she said it was awesome. Pepperoni pizza with spicy hot honey drizzled on top, thin crust. She enjoyed it immensely. The olive oil and bread were outstanding. I waited too long to write this review, so I don't remember what my granddaughters and their dates ordered. But they all seemed to enjoy their meals and did not complain about anything. It's a great place for a date night. If this review was helpful, please give me a thumbs up.
Wonderful atmosphere... Staircase leads you down to a historic Italian bistro. Candle lit during the evenings, earthy crockery, booths, high tables, and bar seating. The smell of the baking in the stone-fire oven fed by wood is tantalizing. They have an extensive alcoholic beverage list, but I was after the vegan pizza and roasted cauliflower appetizer. Friendly staff and festive atmosphere. I treat myself to the Basso on my birthdays when I'm in town. Our waitress treated me to a lovely Italian dessert it was so delicious
Amazing happy hour! The meatballs and dip...phenomenal! The happy hour and burger and fries were delicious and an incredible value!
Do yourself a favor and stop in M-F 4-6pm, you won't be disappointed!

Food really good. Third time here. Brought friends this time. Always a cool underground vibe. Three burgers with truffle fries which they thought were fabulous. I ate the Mafalda. Great pork ragu pasta. Had some mixup with the wine, but the staff corrected right away. Will be back.
The burger was great. The fries that come with the burger were amazing. The pizza was delicious. My only suggestion is if you need to use the restroom the men's is on the right and the women's is straight ahead. It is a little dark in that area and if you stare at the sign too long someone may open the door into your face. That may or may not have happened to me. The tiramisu was delicious. It is serving a cup very untraditionally but still very delicious.
Basso is a hidden gem. I’ve passed the Cheshire area for years and never knew that this amazing restaurant existed.
You open the door to this restaurant and are immediately greeted by a huge staircase leading you down to a medieval-like tavern in the best way. Fire lines the walls and there are plenty of seats.
I visited with a close friend, we sat at the bar and had the burrata, carpaccio, margherita pizza and emo pizza. The food was fabulous and came out quickly even though it was such a busy night. I couldn’t recommend Basso enough.
This place is a MUST if you are visiting St. Louis.
Adored this place. Amazing ambience, delicious oven fired pizza, incredible service. I can't tell you enough how good of an experience this was, but I highly recommend you see for yourself.
Returned for my little sister’s birthday. Food and drinks were delicious and service was phenomenal. Just as dark as last time though. That was the one thing I would change for the experience. Other than that, I would highly recommend!!
Food was average and drink was not my favorite either. It seemed a lot darker inside compared to the last time I had been here to eat. Maybe just came on a bad night
